On the other hand, LTE technology mainly concerned data transmission. And in some currently functioning devices on the market, this is still the case; however, both 2G and 3G are somewhat older technologies that fall short compared to the capabilities of newer devices with LTE and VoLTE. Because with VoLTE, users can not only transmit data at faster speeds but also make calls at LTE speeds. But let's take it step by step.
What is VoLTE?
VoLTE (Voice over LTE) is a technology that enables voice calls and SMS transmission over the 4G LTE network, providing better quality compared to older, more unreliable 2G and 3G technologies. VoLTE is used not only for voice calls but also for sending SMS and MMS messages, which often contain large attachments.
How to use VoLTE?
In the case of smartphones, VoLTE technology is now widely adopted and is often enabled automatically. At the same time, more and more classic phones are emerging that utilize this solution.
Terms of Use for VoLTE
In order for VoLTE technology to work on a feature phone, the following conditions must be met:
- the device must operate on the LTE network (be equipped with a 4G modem),
- his software must support the VoLTE service,
- the phone should have an LTE SIM card,
- the mobile operator must also support VoLTE – for some phone models, you need to ask the operator to activate the service,
- The phone must be within the range of the LTE network.
Using VoLTE technology is free of charge. The service is provided along with the phone/software update prepared by the operator and the phone manufacturer.
In summary: to use VoLTE technology (if the phone is properly equipped), there is no need to install it or pay extra for it, although enabling it along with an update may involve accepting new settings. However, it usually gets activated automatically.

Why is VoLTE not working? How to enable VoLTE with the carrier?
All myPhone and HAMMER phones equipped with LTE connectivity are configured in such a way that the VoLTE technology is automatically activated. Before launching new models, the manufacturer thoroughly checks their performance, including in operator networks, to ensure that the service functions flawlessly.
If VoLTE is not working on a device, the best solution would be to contact the operator whose services we are using. They should help resolve issues related to network settings.
- First, you should ask to check if the SIM card has the VoLTE service (also known as VoLTE provisioning) automatically enabled. If not, the operator should activate it manually.
- If, after verification, it turns out that the VoLTE service is enabled but still not working, you should ask the operator to restart it. The exact restart time depends on the specific operator and may take up to 24 hours.
- After everything, the phone should be restarted.
What is the difference between VoLTE and VoWiFi?
VoLTE and VoWiFi are two technologies that enable voice calls over the internet without the need to use a traditional cellular network. Both solutions allow for calling without the need to install additional applications.
The main difference between VoLTE and VoWiFi lies in the way data is transmitted. VoLTE uses the operator's cellular network, providing wide coverage and a stable connection. In contrast, VoWiFi relies on Wi-Fi connections, which can be particularly beneficial in areas with weak cellular signal.
If both VoLTE and VoWiFi are enabled, the phone automatically selects the technology that will provide the best call quality at that moment.
Summary
VoLTE is a very useful technology and an important feature of a phone. Especially if we are considering purchasing a classic phone that is meant to last for many years, it is worth opting for a device with VoLTE.
Moreover, the fact that the phone is equipped with LTE (4G) does not mean that it is somewhat more difficult or complicated to use than a smartphone. It also does not mean that it will generate additional charges for internet usage.
